The Hollywood awards season is looming and as a warm up, the 16th annual Hollywood Film Awards were held in Los Angeles on Monday 22nd October. The event is often considered to signal the beginning of the awards season and so is pretty exciting for those involved. It took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and there were a host of stars in attendance. The big names who were honoured include Richard Gere, Dustin Hoffman and Bradley Cooper.

Richard Gere was given the Hollywood Career Achievement Award, a very prestigious honour for the American actor. Many people have seen his films, which tend to appeal to a wide audience, from die-hard film fans, to those who also have other hobbies like playing binguez and reading books. Quentin Tarantino was given the award for Screenwriter of the Year, for a film that is still in the works. His latest offering is Django Unchained, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson and Jonah Hill and is the story of a bounty hunter who used to be a slave. It comes out in the UK in January 2013

Another upcoming film that received recognition at the awards is Silver Linings Playbook, which will be released later this year. This film stars Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, and is directed by David O. Russell. For his role in this film, Cooper was given the Hollywood Actor Award and De Niro's performance was honoured with the Hollywood Supporting Actor Award.

They were not the only winners on the night either, with Marion Cotillard coming away with the Hollywood Actress Award. This was for her performance in Rust and Bone, where she plays Stephanie, a killer whale trainer who is an accident. Other winners include Amy Adams for The Master and Ben Affleck and the cast of Argo.
